2013 is going to be a LUCKY year!

Yes, I said it... lucky! Oh, I know for many the number 13 is deemed to be unlucky. But for me, with my birthday falling on the number 13, it is all good! So I have that little extra pop of excitement that I intend to materialize into results this year.

Granted there are superstitions that can hold people back (or give them excuses) as well as there are people who wait for luck to strike them – after all someone has to win the lottery, right? And then there are those of us who believe a well-executed plan combined with…wait for it – HARD WORK, will rain down the luck upon us!

So let’s get to it…our plans for 2013. Ideally those plans were already unfolding before 2012 was ushered out. But just in case you’re a tad behind, it’s never too late to start from the current moment. Personally I use a daily plan, a weekly plan, a monthly plan, a quarterly plan, a yearly plan, and two-year plan to help keep me on target. And my bucket list is HUGE! Yes, I’m a planner!

You may ask, “Do you achieve most of the action items within your plan?” No, but I come considerably closer than I would have without the careful (and spontaneous) planning. Did you notice how I snuck in “spontaneous?” Yes, planning in the spur of the moment as a need is identified or a change is required, can be liberating and exhilarating!

If organization is not your strong suit, try planning by using a time line. Here’s an example: you want to read a specific book within 14 days – divide the number of pages or chapters into the 14 day period to determine what you need to read daily. Record your goal and daily check your progress. The daily habit of self-assessment using a time line will support your action plans and keep you focused. Not to mention, a daily self-assessment bumps up accountability!

2013 is the Chinese year of the snake so slither your way into that lucky position. You’ll find me there, too along with everyone who decided to work hard (and smart) just in case luck passed them by.

Here’s to 2013 – a year of progress, promise and endless possibilities!
